Jean is the Data Solutions Manager at Old Mutual Finance. Her portfolio includes optimisation of data to support analytics and reporting, and operational process efficiencies; management of the BI technology estate; data governance; and information security. Jean’s current focus is the re-architecture of the data landscape to enable advanced analytics, deep learning, core operational competencies and drive transformation to a data driven culture. Jean managed the Business Intelligence team prior to transitioning to the data centric role. She previously lived and worked in the UK for ten years, gaining a wealth of financial management experience, implementing procurement and financial reporting processes and efficiencies within leading global insurance and consultancy organisations.
Apart from being a wife and mom to 2 very busy boys, Alex spends her professional time shaping and applying her strategy to evolve the BI landscape within the Woolworths Food business.
With more than 13 years of BI experience behind her, having started out in technical and analytical roles, followed by the past 10 years having played key BI leadership and integration roles across both IT and business, Alex has developed vast experience and knowledge of retail systems & processes and an in-depth understanding of how the data all comes together to the end user to enable insightful performance management, analytics and decision making. In more recent years, she has established a BI maturity model that has been adopted to progress and embed various BI and analytics solutions in the cross-functional areas within the Woolworths Food business, which are now becoming fundamental to key strategic decision making.
Dr Barry Devlin is among the foremost authorities on business insight and one of the founders of data warehousing, having published the first architectural paper on the topic in 1988. With over 30 years of IT experience, including 20 years with IBM, he is a widely respected analyst, consultant, lecturer and author of "Data Warehouse-from Architecture to Implementation", and numerous white papers. His most recent book, "Business unIntelligence-Insight and Innovation beyond Analytics and Big Data", was published earlier this year.
He specialises in the human, organisational and IT implications of deep business insight solutions that combine operational, informational and collaborative environments. He is a regular contributor to BeyeNETWORK, SmartDataCollective and TWDI.
Xolani Holomisa’s working experience spans financial markets, e-commerce, retail banking and telecommunications. He has a four-year track record leading successful operational BI and project delivery teams, and 13 years’ BI experience. He has had the opportunity to formulate and drive the BI and analytics strategy at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange for the past year. Before his current opportunity, he was the manager for reporting and analytics at MTN South Africa. Holomisa holds a BCom degree in information systems from the University of Cape Town.
Mandy Jamieson is a BI, analytics and strategy specialist with over 15 years of cross-functional experience. She specialises in optimising business models and embedding analytics into business processes. Jamieson has worked with clients from both the public and private sectors, across global markets in multiple industries. Her working experience is supported by a top-notch academic record, which includes an MBA degree.
Cecil is currently the Manager: information systems and is leading 2 teams namely; the Web `Development team and the Apps Development /Data Management team. He is the Project Lead for the enterprise-wide Business Continuity Program whose test reports have to be effected through a BI solution. He used to be a Data Engineer specializing in Reporting and Analytics. Cecil is also a part-time lecturer at TUT for BTECH students (Knowledge Management). He holds a Master’s degree in Business Information Systems and is currently a PhD (Business Leadership) student at the UKZN
Liesl Lodewyk is a skilled marketing specialist with a successful track record of +20 years' experience in the Marketing industry. Extensive exposure to end to end marketing, events and cause marketing, including, digital marketing, campaign development, brand development, and social media management. Liesl’s unique creative ideas and ability to conceptualise and develop comprehensive, well rounded marketing campaigns are her core strengths. She has the ability to market and build a brand, achieving great successes in attaining market presence and brand affinity.
Dudley K Petersen, CIO at the Department of Cooperative Governance and Department of Traditional Affairs, is a visionary, skilled and goal-oriented IT senior executive with demonstrated experience in leading, planning, developing and implementing cutting-edge IT solutions to realise business goals and objectives. Peterson has been instrumental in developing three-to-five-year strategic plans through analytical and strategic thinking that is aligned with business objectives for implementation and operation of business services, quality assurance and training. He has initiated and enforced strict budget controls addressing business needs and the promotion of growth. Peterson is adept at crisis management, troubleshooting, problem-solving and negotiating.
Gustav has been in the IT industry for more than 20 years with responsibilities ranging from infrastructure management, software development and implementation in ERP environments, operations management and Sales. As Marketing and Sales Director at AIGS his primary responsibility is to build the channel business, promoting the AIGS product range including Yellowfin BI, Progress related products including Corticon, Pacific, Rollbase, DataDirect Cloud, Easyl, Telerik, Sitefinity and the traditional OpenEdge suite, as well as establishing these brands in the Sub-Sahara territories.
Gustav is passionate about IT and the value it can bring to business, with effective implementation and utilisation, with a specific interest in BI and data visualisation.
John Roberts has worked in the industrial and mining environment for the last 25 years and has worked in a number of different disciplines generally focusing on process and business improvement areas. He started his working career as a physical metallurgist in an industrial plant, including a stint of optimising production methods, moving on to responsibility for quality and environmental systems. He implemented corporate reporting databases and managed complex reporting processes to a board level on issues of sustainable development. During his career, he visited many of the countries in which Anglo American operates and gained experience especially in auditing safety throughout the mining environment. He left this field after an extended period of heading up the delivery team and transferred to an information management role to take responsibility for Anglo's fledgling BI efforts. Dr Alex Rummel has been working with blue-chip companies since 1995, in Europe and SA, in the areas of financial services, retail, telco and media. He was instrumental in designing and implementing customer-facing solutions for the likes of Old Mutual, Sanlam, Investec, Vodacom and Edcon. Given his experience, he is often involved as a solution expert to assist with the design and implementation of rich, interactive and sustainable engagement services. Dr Rummel holds an MSc and PhD in computer science from the University of Bremen, in Germany, and is a regular contributor to conferences, workshops and publications in the CRM, marketing, mobility and BI space. He is a co-founder of Grapevine Interactive, a leading cloud communication services provider in SA; a director of Slipstream Consulting, a leading BI products and services provider; and the founder of Digital Pathways, a company that assists businesses and brands with their consumer engagement strategy and loyalty services.
Samuel De Swardt is senior business intelligence architect at StanLib, one of the largest financial asset management companies in southern Africa, which currently manages in excess of R584 billion of financial assets across the retail and institutional sectors.
With more than 15 years’ experience in BI, data warehousing and architecture, spanning a wide range of industries and companies, among those government organisations, Barlows Equipment, Pfizer Pharmaceutical, Anglo American and, currently, Stanlib, De Swardt has strong analytical capabilities and is a great believer of constant innovation and improvement, continuously analysing data and data patterns.
