Can critical infrastructure be moved to the cloud?

Will the promulgation of the Critical Infrastructure Protection Act prevent state-owned enterprises and facilitators of critical infrastructure for SA from being allowed to move to the cloud? The popularity and increased adoption of cloud-based services, albeit at different degrees, will influence and shape the future of marketplaces and industries. The economics of computing is changing, as more organisations turn to cloud computing to save money. If real damage to the economy can be caused by disruption to cloud services, lawmakers might reassess their attitude toward regulations. With all this in mind, would it be wise for custodians of critical infrastructure within SA to adopt cloud.

  • Find out what cloud options are available for the custodians of critical infrastructure?
  • Who is accountable for guidance regarding this issue?
  • What options are available for these custodians – where is the Critical Infrastructure Council? What has transpired thus far?
