It is imperative that companies are aware of cyber security and have the agility to deal with each new security threat as it arises. The cost to businesses is staggering. In just the last 12 months, there has been a 12% increase in the number of attacks, and the average cost of a breach to a South African company this year was R32.4 million, up from R28.6 million, according to the latest research from the Ponemon Institute.

There is no longer an 'if' when talking about being directly affected by criminal activity, only a 'when'. As the person responsible for information security in your company, it is your job to guard against these attacks.

The ITWeb Security Summit 2018 will address information security in a purely business context, which will enable you to respond effectively and protect what matters most – your data, your revenue, and your staff.

Blinded Random Block Corruption Attacks: The next level

The elements pertaining to information security and the governance, risk and compliance aspects will be discussed in this track. Everything from regulation and policy around data protection to the Cybercrime and Cybersecurity Bill, plus the role POPIA and electronic handshakes play in terms of data and transaction management.

This track is all about the insider threat and the role your staff play in aiding and abetting cyber crime. We will walk you through each step, from how to integrate insider threat protection, device management and vulnerability management into your daily risk management routine.

The technical aspects of cyber security management, threat protection and incident response management are unveiled during this track. Everything from AV to ransomware and penetration testing to offensive hacking will be discussed using live demos, real-world applications and expert opinion from industry.

Everything from mobile security to the cloud and more will be discussed during this track. All those subjects that are relevant and topical are argued and debated – the part BYOD plays in information security management, threat management and protection to AI, machine learning and big data.

Strategic management is a relatively new field in information security and in it we discuss how to communicate the message of security threats and attacks with the board, the role of the CISO, information security manager, as well as skills development and retention and new entrants into the field.

Information security isn't just an IT issue anymore – it's everyone's business!

Improved hackathon – bigger and better

The inaugural #SS17HACK was a great success, as 34 young people hunkered down in a room getting to grips with applications for information security. It was all about getting them to think of ideas and solutions to address problems we have in the information security field.

#SS18HACK will cater to more than 100 young hackers and, once again, our aim is to focus on skills development, mentoring, career guidance, capacity building and recruitment opportunities.

Cyber Security 101 intro day

We have added a one-day intro to cyber security. This would appeal to those who have just started out in infosec or wish to brush up on their foundation skills. We will explain the acronyms and provide a good foundation for what will be presented during the two-day summit.

CISO executive gathering

We are aware that every CISO is busy, and cannot afford one, never mind two, days out of the office. However, we truly believe Security Summit is the place to be, and missing out is not an option. To ensure we meet your needs from an information and time perspective, we have secured a couple of the keynote speakers to meet with you exclusively over a cup of coffee and pastry on day two of the Security Summit.

This is by invitation only and seats are limited. If you are a CISO, CSO, CIO or in a similar position with oversight of the infosec function and you would like to take advantage of this exclusive offer, send your request to

Intro podcasts with keynote speakers

Gain access to the keynote speakers' content in the weeks leading up to Security Summit 2018. We will be interviewing a number of the key presenters and finding out more about them: how they started out, what their key challenges are and more about the topic on which they will be presenting at the summit. You can download these podcasts for free.

Rotating demo labs – Capture the Flag competition

We are setting up a brand new space in the exhibition area and you are invited to come and play and stand a chance to win. Each day of the summit will sport a new grouping of demos and Capture the Flag opportunities. Visit each of these labs on 23 and 24 May, play the game and win big.

Survey results unveiled

ITWeb will carry out an infosec survey leading up to the 2018 event. The results will be revealed during the summit and you will walk away with the published results to use to make accurate business decisions in the coming year.

Last, but not least, ITWeb Security Summit will be taking on Cape Town the week following the Joburg event.
