SAOUG conference 2014 set to deliver more to more users

A greater proportion of Oracle users is set to participate in the upcoming annual SA Oracle User Group (SAOUG) conference and expo, which this year places its focus firmly on meeting the needs of the user community.

The conference agenda of the annual event, Connect 2014, has been largely shaped by the user community this year, says Connect 2014 event director Robert Walker. "Efforts have been stepped up to ensure that Connect 2014 delivers the insights that the user community want to hear. As a result, we are seeing an increased proportion of Oracle users registering to attend. This year, the majority of the more than 500 delegates at the event will be Oracle users, with a number of major enterprises sending large teams of delegates." In addition, vendor and partner delegations will be present, giving delegates a prime opportunity to network across the industry.

The programme at Connect 2014 has been structured to deliver user-to-user knowledge sharing, insights, best practice guidelines and real world case studies across a number of disciplines, with tracks dedicated to Database & Technology, Big Data & Business Analytics, Development and Business Intelligence, Database & SAP Infrastructure, Middleware & Storage, Enterprise Applications – SaaS, Applications – Oracle, and Enterprise Performance Management (Hyperion).

Among the expert local and international speakers participating will be Alain Ozan, VP and solution consulting manager for Applications and Technology, EMEA; Marius Wentworth, relational database consulting; SAOUG chairman; head of SAOUG Middleware and Infrastructure Community and SAOUG Flexcube SIG chair; and Pieter Bensch, country manager, Oracle Corporation South Africa, and Manoj Bhoola, a well-known design and mobility expert.

Talks will range from the hands-on specifics to big picture overviews, including an address by Roel Seijkens, senior director technology, product leader team manager  Oracle ECEMEA region, the Netherlands, who will deliver a keynote on big technology trends that are being leveraged by large companies to achieve "digital transformation". Rudolph Horn, GM Oracle, Dimension Data MEA, will discuss crafting a sustainable African business partnership on a continent in turmoil.

Delegates will get in-depth real-world insights from the likes of Werner Adams, technical architect at Media24; Reon Maree, project manager at MTN Next; Alan Allcock, technical team lead/apps DBA at First National Bank; and Mariska Walkerley, ERP functional configuration consultant at First National Bank. Marius Wentworth, SAOUG chairman, will close the proceedings.

"The agenda this year features a broad base of excellent speakers," says Walker. "In compiling the programme, the SAOUG Connect 2014 advisory board has tried to bring in the common thread running through the conference – the fact that IT today amounts to a ‘digital Rubick's Cube': all facets of IT have to work together to deliver a complete picture, much like a Rubick's Cube," he says.
