#SS19HACK – Now Open for Registration

Security Summit 2019 Johannesburg
28 & 29 May
Sandton Convention Centre

#SS19HACK is open for registration and we are looking for young, talented individuals who want to develop their skills through learning and innovation, and who have a passion for information security, machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence, IOT and other new age technologies.

Help us separate hype from true innovation at #SS19HACK

According to Wikipedia - The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) is the fourth major industrial era since the initial Industrial Revolution of the 18th century. It is characterized by a fusion of technologies that is blurring the lines between the physical, digital, and biological spheres, collectively referred to as cyber-physical systems.

It is marked by emerging technological breakthroughs in a number of fields, including: robotics, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, quantum computing, biotechnology, the Internet of Things, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Blockchain, fifth-generation wireless technologies (5G), additive manufacturing/3D printing and fully autonomous vehicles.

We are living in the fourth major industrial era or 4IR, as it has come to be known, where you have more things connected to the Internet than people.

The rise in automation and variety of technologies bring many possibilities and many possibilities bring many more vulnerabilities.

Are we prepared for this change? Do we have the capacity?

Protecting connected citizens is a priority!

#SS19HACK challenges local techies to build tech and mechanisms to protect the connected population.

All we need is you, your laptop, a willingness to learn, a hunger for information and some background in computer science and/or mathematics.

We will provide you with foundational knowledge in infosec and machine learning, and you're responsible for the outcome...

Did you miss out in 2018?

#SS18HACK in summary...

Up to 42 participants took part in the 2018 edition of the ITWeb Security Summit #SS18HACK with 18 participants coming all the way from Kimberley in the Northern Cape.

The sensational 15 year coder, Sifiso Nkabinde got to attend his very first Hackathon and his team developed a Social Media security filter which garnered much interest and he has since won cash prizes at other hackathons to buy himself a brand new development computer.

International security experts Jayson Street, April C. Wright and Rodrigo Branco joined in the action as mentors
and were blown away by the talent and innovation in the room!

The Data Wizards came second in their first ever ITWeb Security Summit #SS18HACK and have been utilising the skills and lessons learn to cultivate a startup (ITHubSA).

The Wizzards are always up for a new challenge and thrive on all things Machine Learning, fraud detection and more recently a multi-layer DeepHealth solution. We look forward to finding out what they have to offer in 2019.

Big things await MoringaIOT, one of the three teams from Kimberley that participated in #SS18HACK. They developed, built and implemented a smart and secure farming solution from scratch that exposes vulnerabilities and highlights how to go about mitigating them.

ITWeb Security Summit #SS18HACK made the headlines in the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature when the MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism invited the team to join him during his budget speech. Dressed to kill MoringaIOT where photographed with the MEC who mentioned their incredible achievement – second place winners of #SS18HACK.

With the support of DEDAT the MoringaIOT team also participated in the first on African soil, ITU Conference, which took place in October 2018 in Durban, joined by the Premier of the Northern Cape province, Ms Sylvia Lucas. Watch this space for more from MoringaIOT.
