Mdu Zakwe


Mdu Zakwe is a qualified chartered accountant with an MBA in IT and e-commerce. He is also certified in applied cyber security with MIT (Boston, USA). He is currently completing his PhD in cyber security education with the University of South Africa (UNISA). Zakwe has worked in many blue-chip companies, including Unilever, FirstRand, Anglo-Gold Ashanti, EY and KPMG, and has served as chairperson on boards and board committees both in the private and public sector. He has also served on institutions of professional interest like the Computer Society of South Africa (as VP professional development), South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (as president – Eastern Region and board member), and the Black IT Forum KZN (treasurer). In his early days, he was a tutor at the University of Natal and a lecturer at Boston College. Zakwe was instrumental in the sector skills plan of Bankseta when he was chair of its Sector Skills Planning Committee. He also made a great impact in turning around the ICT of Services SETA when he acted as CIO. He was instrumental in systems migration at Fasset when he was a member of its Audit & Risk Committee. In his spare time, he enjoys developing cyber security board games that can help our youth become cyber aware of the risks and threats of being in cyber space.
