ABOUT OUR CHARITY

Join us in celebrating the ICT industry's top achievers

Qhubeka

Qhubeka is an Nguni (Zulu, Xhosa) word that means “to carry on”, “to progress”, “to move forward”.
The percentage of children walking more than an hour to school and back each day increased by 0,7% between 2003 and 2013. Bicycles are the most effective and economical method of quickly addressing this problem.

Qhubeka helps people move forward and progress by giving bicycles in return for work done to improve communities, the environment or academic results. Having a bicycle changes lives by increasing the distance people can travel, what they can carry, where they can go and how fast they can get there.

Why Qhubeka?

This year ITWeb selected a charity supported by a previous winner of the IT Personality of the Year award.

Anthony Fitzhenry, a founding member of Qhubeka, was the recipient of this award in 2006. He is seen here receiving the his certificate from Moira de Roche.

In 1989, Anthony founded Axiz (Pty) Ltd, which grew to become the largest IT distribution company in Africa. In 2003, he spearheaded the development of an Employee Ownership Trust, which allowed all Axiz employees to become employee owners, and to democratically influence and benefit from the future growth of their company.

He is a founding member of ‘Inqolobane’, The Employee Ownership Association Africa, an organisation that fosters and kindles entrepreneurial democratic equity participation for the employees of enterprises in Africa.
