BI: Coping with big data

The prestigious awards, recognising the best and most innovative business intelligence projects in the country, will be handed over at the annual ITWeb BI Summit on 28 February 2012. The winners will join the likes of SARS and Engen in having their projects recognised as the best in the country.


Judges
 
Ranka Jovanovic, Editorial Director and Founding Member, ITWeb

For the past eight years, Ranka has led ITWeb’s editorial team to grow ITWeb into SA’s premier IT publisher, with a reader base of over 80 000 IT and business professionals. ITWeb published a daily online IT news update; a monthly business IT magazine, Brainstorm, and a weekly IT news digest magazine, iWeek. Ranka has also been programme director and chair of a number of conferences and executive forums hosted by ITWeb and its content partners.

Prior to joining ITWeb, Ranka was editor of InformationWeek Southern Africa and deputy editor of ComputerWeek. She immigrated to SA in 1994 from Yugoslavia, where she was involved in education, general publishing and IT publishing for over 10 years.

 
Bill Hoggarth, Independent Consultant

Bill has 25 years of passionate executive, management, delivery and sales experience in the data warehousing, business intelligence and analytics domain. He has lived and worked in most major European markets, and for the last 13 years has been based in South Africa. Having spent 8 years at SAS (most recently as Regional CEO, Africa Middle East), 6 years at Cognos and 4 years with Business Objects, he has seen the BI industry emerge from its query and reporting roots through to the sophisticated enterprise-wide offerings and architectures of today.

Bill has been intimately involved in hundreds of BI/DW/analytics businesses throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa as they have sought to position themselves within their respective markets. Since leaving SAS at the end of 2008, Bill has undertaken several consulting/mentoring assignments within the local BI/DW community and on behalf of emerging global vendors. One of his current assignments is on behalf of Mark Logic, helping to launch their information access and delivery products into the SA market.
 
Barry Devlin, Founder and Principal, 9sight Consulting

Dr. Barry Devlin is a founder of the data warehousing industry and among the foremost authorities worldwide on business intelligence (BI) and beyond. He is a widely respected consultant, lecturer and author of "Data Warehouse--from Architecture to Implementation". Barry has 30 years of experience in the IT industry, previously with IBM, as an architect, consultant, manager and software evangelist.

As founder and principal of 9sight Consulting, Barry provides strategic consulting and thought-leadership to buyers and vendors of BI solutions. He is a regular contributer to BeyeNETWORK, Focus, O'Reilly Radar and an associate editor of TDWI's Journal of Business Intelligence. Living in Cape Town, South Africa, he travels regularly to Europe.

Barry is currently developing a new architectural model for fully consistent business support--from informational to operational and collaborative--Business Integrated Insight (BI2).
