Marthinus Strydom

Eliance CEO Marthinus Strydom started his first business at the age of 21, after becoming bored with studying law. His first entrepreneurial venture was a graphic design studio that used the very first desktop publishing computers imported into South Africa. Strydom went on to establish a further 15 companies.

Strydom and two colleagues approached the McCarthy Group in 1998 and partnered with them to create Megashopper , one of SA’s first online shopping malls, which was followed by Call-A-Car. Eliance was born from this partnership. In 2002, McCarthy acquired all the minority shares in Eliance and asked Strydom to remain on in a management role.

In 2007, he was appointed as CIO of the McCarthy Group and by 2009 he had reduced the ICT costs of McCarthy by more than 20%.

Skills development and talent retention are top priorities for Strydom. In 2011 Eliance, which Strydom bought back from Bidvest, was awarded the coveted “Deloitte Best Company to work for award” in the IT and small business category.

In 2012, Strydom created yet another business - a unique technology incubation and venture capital business named EGG - Extremely Gifted Geeks.

He is involved in many social responsibility projects, from the Rally to Read with McCarthy and the Read Foundation to his continuous involvement at Hospice to the medical evacuation and treatment of burn victims from Madagascar.
