About Survey The first ITWeb Brainstorm CIO Survey, run in association with Telkom Business, was conducted online on ITWeb from 1 August to 1 September. It focused on operational priorities, business value of IT, sourcing and strategic priorities. The survey targeted CIOs or equivalent IT executives at corporates and public sector organisations. It attracted 158 participants. About 65% of the response base are large enterprises – employing over 500 people. Half of the participants fall into either financial, government, mining, manufacturing, or ICT.

Objectives There are a number of insightful global CIO surveys in existence, and some take into account South African feedback. But none so far has entirely focused on the challenges that are unique to South Africa’s CIOs.

The Brainstorm CIO Survey 2014 aims to establish an annual South African IT strategy benchmark report that will help business leaders and technology suppliers understand the needs of the CIOs, and, above all, enable CIOs themselves to compare how their challenges, priorities and strategies compare to those of their peers.

Release and publication of the results

The results of the Brainstorm CIO Survey were released at the inaugural Brainstorm CIO Banquet on 2 October 2014.
